Perl, Python and Ruby are open source languages. Perl has a centralised repository on the Internet called CPAN where Perl programmers put a lot of the software they write in Perl so that other Perl programmers can reuse it. Why don't traditional computer scientists like Perl? Why is it called a blue collar language by the people that make it? What are the differences between Perl/CPAN and languages like C++, Java and .NET?
