From earliest times, artists working in all modalities (sound, image, text) have adapted every technology available to them for use in artistic expression and communication. The natures of both the artist and the technologies used have taken each others' evolution in new, unexpected and often productive interesting new directions. What can we learn from example of the past and how can we use what we've learned in our current work? With precise use of terminology, are 'translators' needed between programmers and artists?
