I'm missing something. John gives the above address to Fred. But now Fred (naive Fred) publishes this address for me on the net. The address makes its way into spam lists. The system is now compromised.

True, I'm only part way through reading the article on Segmail. But unless there's something more going on here, it would appear the system depends on recipients keeping my eMail address a secret.
