Even though more than 4 billion addresses are possible in the range available with numbers that span 0-255.0-255.0.255.0-255, our internet forefathers allocated too many large blocks to the founders of the internet and the actual number of available addresses is much smaller than 4 billion. As the world gets on line, IPv6 sets out to address that.
